Advantages
A
minimally invasive procedure utilizing radiofrequency can reduce the swollen tissues within a period of 10-12 weeks without
the need for operating room surgery. Nasal turbinates are specialized
structures on the sides of the nose that react to the offending odor or airborne
particles by swelling and pouring out mucus (as if the body were trying to block
and cleanse the breathing passage). Turbinates are small shelf-like structures,
projecting on the sidewalls of the nose, which are always changing in size and
are primarily responsible for warming, humidifying and filtering the inspired
air. There are three turbinates on each side of the nose. Nasal congestion
occurs when these tissues swell.
How
is nasal CoblationTM treatment performed?
The procedure is
done under local anesthesia. The procedure is done under local
anesthesia. First, small packing is soaked in a mixture of topical anesthesia
and decongestant and placed in each nostril in preparation for local anesthesia.
Next, a small amount of local anesthesia is delivered to the site. The Coblator
tip is dipped in saline gel. The tip is placed over the swollen and affected
tissue by pressing the foot control and advancing the tip. A small channel is
created within the tissue and within 10-15 seconds the tissue volume is
reduced. If the bony turbinates are swollen they are pressed outward to
physically expand the nasal airway passage as well. Small packing is replaced in
each nostril and kept for several minutes. Patients are generally discharged to
return to work immediately after surgery.
What
are advantages of CoblationTM treatment?
The clinical advantages of CoblationTM are
intended to include more precise operative results, reduced surgical time, more
rapid recovery, and reduced post-operative pain. CoblationTM
technique is:
- Easy
- Painless
- Takes less than hour to perform the treatment
- Single step in most cases
- Performed under local anesthesia or IV sedation
- Reduced post-operative care
- Faster healing
- Requires no sutures
- No hospitalization
What are surgical advantages of
CoblationTM?
- Accurate tissue removal
- Simultaneous hemostasis (stops bleeding)
- Leads to tissue shrinkage
- Providing all the control that is needed for precise sculpting of the soft
tissue
